Consultation open on changes to health provider regulation

26 September 2022

Consultation is now open on draft regulation that provides for better regulation of providers of health treatment and related services in the workers compensation and CTP schemes.

The regulation will support the implementation of new powers provided through recent amendments to the State Insurance and Care Governance Act 2015.

The regulation aims to ensure that healthcare services provided in the schemes are appropriate, timely, cost efficient and directly contributing to improving health outcomes.

While most health services are provided with expert care, the regulation will enable SIRA to manage outlier providers that repeatedly engage in poor practice with a stepped approach to dealing with non-compliance.

Feedback is sought on the draft regulation, including:

  • the healthcare services and providers that SIRA can issue directions to
  • the circumstances that can lead to the issuing of a direction
  • processes for a provider to obtain a review of a direction
  • how the public register of directed service providers will be managed.

Feedback from the public and all interested stakeholders is required by 23 October 2022.
