SIRA targets young driver behaviour with an additional $1 million funding to help make NSW roads safe

SIRA is inviting expressions of interest from research projects that provide a proven cost-effective solution, technology or initiative that will impact the behaviour of young road users and Compulsory Third Party premium affordability. A total of $1 million will be available in addition to SIRA’s ongoing commitment to fund road safety programs that prevent or reduce injuries from motor accidents and improve safety education.

Motor Accident Guidelines Changes 1 April

The new Motor Accident Guidelines commenced on 1 April 2023, enhancing benefits and changing terminology from ‘minor injury’ to ‘threshold injury’.

Special Conditions imposed on Aldi Stores workers compensation licence

SIRA has imposed special conditions on the Aldi workers compensation self-insurer licence in response to poor compliance and claims management practices.

Man sentenced for workers compensation fraud

Robert Stephen Kovacs has been convicted and sentenced to an 18 month Community Correctional Order for defrauding the NSW workers compensation scheme.

Regulatory Priorities 2023

SIRA has established a set of regulatory priorities for 2023 that support SIRA’s objective of making sure that the NSW insurance schemes protect and support the people who need them, now and in the future.

NRMA Insurance censured for multiple delays in the CTP scheme

SIRA has issued a letter of censure to Insurance Australia Limited trading as NRMA Insurance following investigations into multiple delays in responding to requests for treatment, rehabilitation and attendant care in the motor accidents scheme.

Claims Costs Disclosure Portal

SIRA has recently launched a new Claims Costs Disclosure (CCD) portal to capture settlement costs data relating to CTP damages claims under the Motor Accident Injuries Act 2017.

Regulatory power to get the best from health service providers

SIRA has been given new powers to better manage health service providers in the workers compensation and CTP schemes, following changes to the State Insurance and Care Governance Amendment Regulation 2022.

The latest indexed adjustments to workers compensation benefits are now available and apply on and from 1 April 2023.

Increased rate of compensation for private car travel from 1 March 2023

An increase in the rate of compensation for private car travel, under section 64 of the Workers Compensation Act 1987, from 55 cents per kilometre to 58 cents per kilometre is applicable on and from 1 March 2023.
