SIRA launches new streamlined online application forms for ‘health practitioners authorised to give evidence’

5 May 2023

SIRA has released new online application forms for health practitioners seeking initial or renewal of appointment as a ‘health practitioner authorised to give evidence’ (HPA) in the NSW Motor Accident CTP scheme.

The changes include separate application forms for HPAs and Injury Management Consultants and dedicated online forms for applicants seeking initial appointment or reappointment as an HPA.

The improved functionality of the forms will streamline the application process for health practitioners seeking to be authorised to give evidence.

The online forms also reflect changes to eligibility requirements set out in the revised version of the Motor Accident Guidelines (version 9.1) including broadening the eligibility requirements to have flexibility to increase supply where appropriate.

SIRA currently has low numbers of HPAs in a number of specialties in the Motor Accident Scheme. These specialities include psychiatry (including child psychiatry), clinical psychology (including child psychology), radiology, dermatology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, paediatrics, sport and exercise medicine, endocrinology, addiction medicine, anaesthesiology, gastroenterology and hepatology. Practitioners that have an interest in medico-legal assessments, are encouraged to apply now.
