SIRA launches open data about the Workers Compensation Scheme

5 September 2024

In July 2024, SIRA launched a new open data portal, providing information about the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme. As the regulator of the Scheme, SIRA is committed to providing timely and transparent reporting on its performance.

The open data portal is accessible for everyone and allows users to deep dive into monthly data about the Scheme’s effectiveness, efficiency, affordability and equity.

Key metrics include recovery through work measures from 4 to 104 week intervals, total reportable claims, premiums collected and an overall insurance scorecard.

The Workers Compensation Scheme is the largest defined benefit scheme in Australia and its insurance policies cover 4.9 million jobs in NSW. In the last financial year, 125,474 workers were supported with income replacement payments and medical support.

As part of its SIRA2025 strategy, SIRA is committed to publishing clear and transparent information about its activity and the performance of the schemes it regulates, insurers and other regulated entities. This supports our goal of being a customer-centric regulator that always takes decisions and actions that will lead to the best possible outcomes for our customers.

SIRA works closely with workers compensation insurers to ensure they report accurate and high-quality data monthly.
