Worker pleads guilty to defrauding the workers compensation scheme

Luis Manuel Farinha Alves has pleaded guilty to defrauding the NSW workers compensation scheme.
SIRA started investigating Mr Alves after receiving information that he was failing to disclose his income while receiving workers compensation payments.
Following the investigation, charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception/dishonesty under section 192E (1)(b) of the NSW Crimes Act 1900 were laid.
Mr Alves pleaded guilty on 24 June 2022 at the Downing Centre Local Court.
The maximum penalty for the offence is 10 years imprisonment.
Mr Alves is scheduled for sentencing on 24 August 2022.
